Rupesh our business manager has taken to calling the Saathi office a wedding house! Indian weddings are bright events, filled with ritual and celebration, that continue for several days. They are not small affairs and nor were the events of this week at Saathi. Although the only thing missing in this non-wedding but wedding like week was the over flow of food.

This week Saathi was certainly bright; it started off by welcoming four new interns. The group of IIT interns and the tech team have been busy making pads and understanding the processes. There were so many things to learn and lots of pads ready for testing! This week each of the Saathi members have had the chance to partake in this ceremony of pad making.

An Indian wedding house is never a wedding house without people pouring through the door. Similarly we had many visitors, many of them being delivery boys bringing in new gifts for everyone in the office to play with. But the most exciting visit was from Lena, Jennifer and Olivia who are on an exciting trip around Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Nepal and India filming a documentary on barriers to education for girls. Kristin and Rupesh were both interviewed about Saathi as well as girls missing school during menstruation and what are our biggest goals and current challenges for Saathi. Check out their movement called Girl With a Book.

As Saturday comes to an end, our visitors are gone, pads are made and dispatched for testing and all gifts have been delivered by the delivery boys. The Saathi office now feels empty and we start to think ‘What next’: exactly how people must feel once the wedding bandwagon comes to a halt.
